1. What are Epinions submission policies?
When submitting content to Epinions whether in the form of reviews, editorials, comments, ratings or your profile page the following are inappropriate:
  • Violating the copyright of a third party
  • Creating more than one account
  • Re-establishing an account on Epinions.com after your account has been terminated
  • Defaming a third party
  • Including contact or personal information about another individual without their permission
  • Submitting content that threatens the personal safety or property of another person
  • Including any pornographic content (This includes any sexually explicit pictures.)
  • Submitting content on a product that is reasonably likely to offend a person trying to make a buying decision on that product
  • Harassing another member
  • Publishing the same review more than once. A review may only be published more than once if the review compares two products and there is at least a 100 word difference between the two reviews.
These are the policies that we feel will have the greatest impact on members, for a full list of policies please refer to the Detailed Site Usage Policy.

2. What will Epinions do if a submission policy is violated?
We hope that the majority of policy violations can be resolved without Epinions intervention. Members should use the tools available to them, such as rating or blocking reviews and members, to discourage this behavior. If the content/member continues to create an undesireable place to be because of a policy violation then Epinions will intervene when a case is brought to our attention. We hope to resolve most situations with a warning and communication of the violation (on most occasions this will occur by ticketing a member). If necessary we will suspend the member and hide their content until the situation is resolved. We also reserve the right to remove the member from Epinions immediately depending on the violation.

3. What can I do about "objectionable" content?
Epinions.com provides tools to help you hide content you might find objectionable. They include blocking members, rating, and configuring your content filter. If you block a member, you can hide all reviews, comments, and ratings from that member using your content filters. Trusting and rating wisely ensures that the content and ratings of the members that you respect continue to impact the content that you see. Finally, configuring your content filters to only show reviews that are highly rated by your Web of Trust can have a significant effect on the quality of the content that you view. In the event that you feel this content violates our submission policies please report it to Epinions.

4. How is abuse reported?
Activities on the site that appear to violate Epinions' User Agreement are reported by users to Epinions.com Community Care, who take action when necessary.

5. What are "tickets"?
Tickets are citations issued by Epinions.com Community Care to highlight problems with specific reviews or member accounts. They are triggered by a variety of concerns, mostly involving actual or possible breaches of Epinions' User Agreement. Tickets are visible to other users, but detailed communication about the problem is available only to the affected member.

6. How do tickets affect a member's account?
Tickets have various effects on a cited member's account, depending on the nature of the problem. Often, the offending reviews or account are temporarily hidden from other users until the problems are corrected. In many cases, the account is restored to normal status when the ticket is removed.

Examples:
Copyright Infringement: Upon receipt of your first ticket your account will be hidden from other users. If you delete or edit the review so that it no longer violates the Site Usage Policy your account will be restored, and the ticket removed. Upon receipt of your second ticket, your account will be hidden from other users and it will not be restored.

Offensive Content: Upon receipt of your first ticket the review in question will be hidden from other users. If you delete or edit the review so that it no longer violates the Site Usage Policy the ticket will be removed. Upon receipt of your second ticket, your account will be hidden from other users. If you delete or edit the review so that it no longer violates the Site Usage Policy your account will be restored, and the ticket removed.

7. How can I clear my account of tickets?
Each ticket contains information about how to resolve the cited problem and remove the ticket. If your account has one or more tickets assigned, click Show details from your Account Summary page to learn how to clear them. Note: You must be signed in to view ticket details.

8. Will having tickets affect my membership status?
In most cases, tickets will temporarily affect your membership status until they are removed. For example, one or more reviews could be hidden from other members. Once the ticket is removed, these temporary effects are cleared. For very serious problems, tickets may have permanent effects on the cited account. For example, accounts with reviews that infringe on someone else's copyright are ordinarily removed from the site. If you have tickets on your account, you can find more information about their effect on your membership status by reading the Ticket Descriptions.
